Today's Hornet Highlight shines a light on Jorie Yarber, our cafeteria manager. Jorie joined our hive about a year ago. Her work is essential to the healthy functioning of our school. As adults we know how much hard work goes into feeding so many people each day. No matter how busy she is, she takes the time to stop and gently cares for our kids. Thank you, Jorie, for nourishing our students with kindness and care. You make us all feel well looked after. We are so grateful.

Welcome back, Hornets! We can't wait for more opportunities to learn together. Recently, our 4th graders had a great time in the STEM lab exploring our watershed model. Students learned about how pollution can affect the watershed and discussed ways to keep it clean. They were really engaged in observing how water flows and in understanding the importance of protecting our waterways.#WarsawUnites

This week third graders worked on place value review in math with friendly games of Uno war. They also participated in investigations where they tested force and speed while dropping papers from a meter above ground using four different types of paper: flat, crumpled, airplane and folded. One student kept time on how quickly the paper dropped, another student dropped the paper, and a third student recorded the time. Students then discussed why some types of paper moved faster than others and if they could do it again how they would get the fastest falling paper. Group projects like these help us to learn to work together in addition to reviewing or learning new math skills. #WarsawUnites

We made it through the first 5 days together, parents, students, staff, and teachers. Whether it was 6th grade using science problem solving skills or 3rd grade exploding watermelons using only rubber bands, making memories and learning go hand and hand at Washington STEM. So happy to have our Hornets back in the building. We are better together! #WarsawUnites

We ended with the best day of the year, Field Day! Thank you to all of our staff, parent volunteers, and our PTO for making this day special for our students. And that's a wrap on the 24-25 school year. We'll see you back here on August 8th ! Have a fantastic and safe summer, Hornets!

We've had the honor of guiding them through half of their school years - the foundational years. We've watched them grow from adorable Kindergarteners into young men and women ready to write their next chapters. It is bittersweet to send them off to the middle school. We've made wonderful memories together, but we know that they'll carry their Hornet roots with pride and represent us well. So Class of 2031, we'll always be your cheerleaders and fans. We'll be watching with pride as you branch out, develop your skills, and prepare to make an even bigger impact on your community and the world. Once a Hornet, always a Hornet. Go be great! #WarsawInspires

Today we'd like to acknowledge our school's nurse, Mr. Heinsman. He offers a calm, caring presence when students may not be feeling their best, or have a medical need. He is quick to see through to the real issue and offer practical advice and comfort. We are so grateful for his commitment to the health and well-being of our students. Thank you, Mr. Heinsman for your dedication. You make a difference in our school. We appreciate how well you take care of us! #WarsawInspires
